Washington State Drops Plans to Develop Coverage Policy for LAA Procedures

from SCAI

As recommended by SCAI, the Washington State HTA, a national leader in developing state-level restrictive coverage decisions that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and others frequently cite in their decisions, has dropped plans to develop a new coverage policy for LAA procedures.

Comments from SCAI and Boston Scientific, along with new information, were cited as their reason not to proceed at this time. This was the only procedure deleted from the 2016 list of procedures to review. With CMS implementing a reasonable coverage decision, the Society is pleased to not have an alternative policy to concern members and their patients.

Additional victories in Washington state include the elimination of most old cardiac stenting restrictions and legislation being enacted to place clinical experts on the technical panel which guides the HTA's coverage decisions. more
