Message from the NFAIS Executive Director:

Marcie Granahan,
NFAIS Executive Director
As the EU and US race towards an open science agenda (see Open access should be the norm for EU by 2020, say research ministers and Administration issues strategic plan for big data research and development), researchers and publishers are raising concerns about privacy rights and ethics. In this issue of NFAIS Advances, check out Posting ‘anonymized’ research data may pose threats to patient privacy; Sharing clinical research data: the devil is in the details; and Scientists are just as confused about the ethics of big-data research as you.

To learn more about the emerging challenges and risks associated with open data sharing, join NFAIS on June 16 and 20 for a two-part virtual workshop — Open Data Fostering Open Science: Meeting Researchers’ Needs — as well as the NFAIS Community Forum, where I explore this topic in more detail.

We hope you enjoy reading this week’s issue of NFAIS Advances! As always, feel free to share with colleagues and friends.

Executive Director
