Wild Sheep Foundation funds Lolo National Forest helicopter prescribed burns

from WSF

In mid-April, wildlife and fire resource staff on the Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest burned approximately 550 acres of ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir stands near Priscilla Peak, above the Thompson River in northwestern Montana. Using funds provided by the Wild Sheep Foundation and Montana WSF, U.S. Forest Service personnel utilized a contracted heli-torch to ignite conifer-encroached slopes, to remove heavy shrub cover and dense seedling and sapling conifers, to improve habitat for bighorn sheep. more
