Sleep deprivation is a growing problem for Canadian children, creating a major threat to their mental and physical health, although ramping up play and exercise is the best way to tackle the problem, according to a recently released report. ParticipAction's 2016 report card on physical activity for children and youth — which for the first time assigns a grade for sleep — concluded that just nine per cent of kids get enough heart-pumping physical activity, with just 24 per cent meeting screen-time guidelines of no more than two hours per day. more
