Hotels turn to 'member' discounts to battle travel websites

Major hotel operators, including Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Marriott International Inc., are taking a new tack to reduce payments to fast-growing online travel websites: lower prices to direct-purchase customers. The chains have started offering exclusive discounts as high as 25 percent this year to members of their loyalty programs who book through the hotels' websites. more
