Manufacturing jobs on rise in city, says new report

Manufacturing has long been an endangered species in New York City, with factories for Sweet'N Low and Streit's matzos among the latest to close. But while the city as a center for mass production may be headed toward extinction, its artisanal, "maker" culture has contributed to a small but historic turnaround in these traditionally middle-class jobs. New York has added 3,900 manufacturing jobs since 2011, marking the longest period of sustained growth in the sector in several decades, according to a report released by the Center for an Urban Future. more
