Report: Federal preschool grants need more research

Federally funded preschool programs need more evaluation before implementation is continued, argues Dale Farran of Vanderbilt University. When then Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced the Preschool Development Grant program in 2014, $226 million had been awarded to 18 states, but objective evaluation of the program was not included in this funding. Farran wrote this piece, she says, to share "the dangers of continuing to implement an elementary school-based program in terms of its likely longer term effects" and advocates for a serious evaluation of this policy "so that it does not have the same fate as others that have been tried." more
