The incredibly smart reason Japan is growing those adorable cube-shaped watermelons

from Forbes

Last week, President Barack Obama signed a law that says you have to write a label on each genetically modified food item. He also said that these square watermelons are not genetically modified. So, how do they grow them square? It’s simple. When the watermelons are small, they put them in a strong square basket. As the watermelon grows, they take the shape of the square basket. Why did the Japanese do that? Spherical watermelons take more space and they aren’t easy to store or transport, but if we can have cubical watermelons like the ones shown above, we can store them easily and have more numbers in a limited space. more
