It's time for another edition of the Q&A interviews with TOS Fellows! This is the perfect opportunity to get to know leaders in the obesity field a little better and learn more about their personal lives outside of work. Here are some questions and answers from our interview with TOS Fellow Charles Baum, MD, MS, FTOS, Vice President and Head of U.S. Medical Affairs at Takeda Pharmaceuticals.

Q: Will you tell us about your current work and your professional developmental trajectory?
A: I started my career as an academic gastroenterologist, obesity researcher and director of obesity and nutrition programs at the U of C (University of Chicago) and UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago). In 2006 I transitioned into industry and have held several positions at Takeda, including Obesity Medical Director and Global Medical Director.

Q: What aspects of obesity research are the most exciting to you right now?
A: The need to demonstrate the value in terms of the triple aim (health outcomes, patient perspective and cost savings) that is derived from medical/surgical management of obesity.

Q: What advice do you have for today's junior obesity researchers?
A: Obtain as broad an experience in training as possible: clinical, basic research, teaching, informatics, outcomes and PharmacoEconomics, business and finance.

Q: What are your favorite things to do when you're not at work?
A: Art, woodwork/furniture design and cycling.
