Message from the NFAIS Executive Director:

Marcie Granahan,
NFAIS Executive Director
Peer Review Week was September 19 – 26, 2016 and, for a second consecutive year, the information services community gathered to celebrate the essential role of peer review, acknowledge the work of our many dedicated reviewers, and discuss why peer review matters and how we can support and improve it.

In this issue of NFAIS Advances, you won’t want to miss Alleged predatory publisher buys medical journals; The ethical hole at the centre of ‘publish or perish’; Robot-written peer reviews; and Anonymous internet vigilantes are taking peer review into their own hands. You’ll also want to check out the NFAIS Community Forum, where I explore peer review’s role in blurring the lines between predatory and traditional publishers.

For NFAIS members, the 2016-2017 Lunch & Learn virtual education series was recently announced and can be found at http://www.nfais.org/lunch-learn-series. I invite you and your staff to sign up for these free events! Non-members are also welcome to attend at $65 for an individual registration and $175 for an unlimited group registration.

We hope you enjoy reading this week’s issue of NFAIS Advances! As always, feel free to share with colleagues and friends.

Marcie Granahan
