In West Milford private operators supplied school transportation in the '40s and '50s

Before West Milford and other area school districts had their own buses school transportation was handled by local private bus owners — functioning as small mom and pop businesses. Some had several buses — others owned just one. In West Milford the private bus operators transported students to the local rural elementary schools — and Hillcrest when it was built in the mid-1940s and to Butler High School. The township, like seven other towns, sent students to Butler High School for their secondary school education. more
