Final Rule for 2017 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule — What Interventionalists Should Know

from SCAI

As the only society solely focused on advancing interventional cardiology care for our patients, SCAI submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) this past September regarding the 2017 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule. The final rule was unveiled this week, with several victories for our community that will take effect on or after Jan. 1, 2017:
  • CMS removed the STEMI code from the list of potentially misvalued codes
  • CMS vacated their proposed reduction in value for the new PVL codes, as well as the new LAAO code and will accept the RUC-recommended values
  • CMS moved forward with stripping out the 0.25 for the value of moderate sedation from almost all interventional cardiology codes and will require the separate and additional reporting using new moderate sedation codes to recoup the value stripped out
  • The reporting of post-procedure care for 10- and 90- global period codes to collect data on accuracy of global code values — will be limited to select states (FL, KY, LA, NV, NJ, ND, OH, OR, RI)
To learn more about how to code for moderate sedation, to recapture the value of this work provided in support of most interventional cardiology procedures, please attend our coding and reimbursement seminar — details are below. more
