GRAPE PRESS: It's Time for Bubbles!

from GBA

The holidays are upon us, and you know what that means: It's time for Champagne! Of course, when you say "Champagne," you mean that wonderful sparkling beverage from Champagne, France. Everything else is a sparkling wine and, for the most part, priced far less than the usual $25-$35/bottle minimum for decent Champagne. Consider trying other sparklers, like Cava from Spain, Prosecco from Italy, or Cremant de Bourgogne from Burgundy, France. I can tell you what this "wine guy" is drinking this holiday season; something we've already told you about: The nonvintage Pinot Noir Brut Rose produced by Spain's Juve & Camps. It's made the same way that Champagne is made, using Pinot Noir grapes. Everyone who tries it loves it, even though it sells for less than $12/bottle. Also this suggestion: Do not drink a sparkling wine in a slim flute; flutes kill the aromas. Use a smaller white-wine glass instead. It really does make a difference. more
