2016-2017 Jahns Lecturer

from AEG

The Jahns Distinguished Lectureship, established in 1988, is sponsored by the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists and the GSA Engineering Geology Division. Its purpose is to provide funding for distinguished engineering geologists to present lectures at colleges and universities in order to increase awareness of students about careers in engineering geology. The lectureship is named in honor of Dr. Richard H. Jahns (1915-1983), an engineering geologist who had a diverse and distinguished career in academia, consulting and government.

This year's lecturer is Dr. Scott A. Anderson. Dr. Anderson joined BGC Engineering as the Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Prior to joining BGC he worked as the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Services Team Manager for the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Resource Center, where he led a national team of geotechnical engineers that assisted state and local transportation agencies through technical assistance, training and the deployment of new technologies. He is a licensed engineer and practicing engineering geologist with over 30 years of experience and approximately 100 publications and invited presentations, and he makes his home in Colorado.

One of Dr. Anderson's lectures will be on the topic of "How engineering geology relates to the needs of those owning and maintaining infrastructure." For his other lecture topics and updated contact information, go to the Jahns Lecturer tab at more
