Polar bears and their cubs face health risks due to toxic pollutants in the Arctic. Some of the health problems these chemicals cause in polar bears include brain damage, hormonal disruption and even some cases of pseudo-hermaphroditism. The study, led by researchers at the University of Milano Bicocca in Italy, looked at the effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP's) on species in the Arctic and found that they pose greater risks to polar bears than to seals, and polar bear cubs who are fed contaminated milk are most at risk. more
