Snack foods are becoming a substitute for main meals by U.S. consumers, especially young adults. According to The NPD Group, a leading global information company, some of the reasons are health consciousness, more solo households and convenience. Snacks eaten at main meals now represent 24 percent of all snack food consumption, which is up from 21 percent five years ago, according to NPD's continual tracking of U.S. consumers snacking attitudes and behaviors. more
