In Memory of AzNA Member, Genie Eide

Imogene (Genie) Eide, 94, passed away on May 24, 2017. Genie graduated from the Missoula St. Patrick’s Hospital Nursing Program in 1943. She started her nursing career and then continued her studies in nursing, graduating with a BSN from ASU in 1967. During her career, Genie held leadership positions at Southside District Hospital, the Maricopa County Health Department, and Cigna Health Care and then went on to form her own company in Hospice and Home Care until her retirement in 1997. Genie also served as a consultant for the World Health Organization and was stationed in India during the late 1960s. She was an early adopter of the concept of hospice in the US and helped draft the initial regulations for hospice services now licensed in AZ. She was a long-time member of the Arizona Nurses Association and the Arizona Association of Home Care, receiving recognition from national, state and local nursing organizations and serving on the board of directors. Genie was inducted as a Fellow in Home Care and Hospice in 1998. She was an avid golfer, cook, and loved talk to all people. Memorial services and reception will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Phoenix on June 24. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley. more
