One size does not fit all. Most industry replacement installation instructions are woefully incomplete

from AWDI

A quick look at most published replacement instructions provided by window manufacturers cover only a couple of field conditions. Doug Anderson, Program Manager, ENERGY STAR for Windows, Doors and Skylights, freely admitted that part of the influence for adding required online instructions for Directive 6 was his inability to find comprehensive instructions covering replacement applications — for his own home. Directive 6 requires "variations" to include all field circumstances, rough framing, old window removals, and frame-in and frame-out — and more.

For example, the InstallationMasters® course and manual covers only four: Bay and Bow, Basement, Jump-Frame and Box Frame. ASTM-2112 covers only three replacement variations in §85, while AAMA publishes scant replacement instructions such as their AAMA 2410-13.

In the real world, there are arguably more than 20 additional distinct replacement variations than available from these sources. However, AWDI's Installation Instructions cover them all — in detail. Perhaps this is why the content of AWDI's online Portal, and Training Manual have been accepted by EPA/Energy Star, and referenced by so many manufacturers, dealers and installers — and in AWDI's Certification Program. more
