Statins may lengthen life in AS

The use of statins among patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) was associated with a 37 percent reduction in all-cause mortality, a cohort study found. In a propensity score matched analysis, the mortality rate among statin initiators was 16.5 per 1,000 patient-years compared with 23.8 per 1,000 patient-years among non-initiators, for a hazard ratio of 0.63 (95 percent CI 0.46-0.85), according to researchers. more
