"National Youth Sports Week" Grows Support in Congress

Congressman Mike McIntyre (1997 – 2015), co-founder of the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus, and ACSM CEO Jim Whitehead (Right) join team members from the Washington, D.C. Pop Warner League, in celebrating National Youth Sports Week on Capitol Hill.

The National Council of Youth Sports (NYCS), youth sports coaches, athletic directors, recreation directors, association members, sponsors, young athletes and parents celebrated National Youth Sports Week July 16-22 in the nation’s capital. The week is designed to raise awareness and unify the youth sports community around P.L.A.Y.S. ~ Physical activity, Living healthy, Access, Youth development and Safety.

Individuals and organizations across the country use National Youth Sports Week as an opportunity to spread the word on the good and positive things youth sports brings to the development of good character in a youngster and the advancement of our communities.

A major feature of the week was a Physical Activity Expo hosted by the National Council of Youth Sports and the Congressional Youth Sports Caucus on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the event was to showcase how youth sports organizations and members of Congress can collaborate to promote healthy lifestyles for children and their families through sports. more
