30 seconds or less can change everything!

from CASE

So, in case you were not able to be in the band of totality last Monday, let me just say all the hype was correct! For almost 2 minutes and 30 seconds, my husband and I experienced totality in a small park in Saluda, South Carolina. It was the perfect location. No traffic getting those 40 miles away from Augusta and we had shade, bathroom facilities, wooded area, and lots of space to see the sun. And the clouds even cooperated. It was amazing! You knew I would be excited but I had to drag my husband on the excursion and after the event, he said, "You did good — really good!" After the eclipse adventure, we went back to our son's home and spent one more night. The next day we drove down to Hilton Head Island to do three site visits on hotels for our upcoming Hybrid conference, March 8-9. At the very first hotel, I was walking along and then suddenly, I was on the cement! I knew immediately I had really hurt my foot. I went ahead and finished the tour, hobbled back to the hotel room and told my husband we needed to head to the ER. It certainly could have been worse but it was a break and I will be in a cast for 8 weeks! I couldn't get used to the crutches and so I now have wheels! So, I just tell you that best laid plans can change in 30 seconds or less!

There still is time to make your nomination! The CASE awards program is a great way to give credit to those who deserve it and yet receive so little of it! Look at the criteria for the Harrie Selznick Award, the Outstanding Special Education Administrator, or the Outstanding Service to CASE awards and nominate someone today. Nominations must be made by Nov. 15 this year due to the earlier date of the CEC Convention, where we always announce and honor the winners. If you have any questions, contact Dr. Julie Bost or me! Take a few minutes to make sure your folks don't leave looking for more recognition when you have other opportunities to give them a well-deserved pat on the back!

Speaking of still having time... You still have time to register for the CASE Fall Conference in Reno, NV which is sure to be one of the best and least expensive ones you could attend this decade! Don't put off registering any longer! Kindel Mason (ID), CASE Professional Development chair and his committee have put together an amazing program [link to pdf attached to email]! The 27th Annual CASE Fall Conference will be held at the Nugget in Reno, Nevada, Nov. 2-4. Now is a great time to go ahead and reserve you room at the Nugget at the amazing group rate of just $81 a night — and that includes your airport to hotel and back transportation! Remember, if you are part of your State/Provincial leadership — the CASE Board of Directors will be meeting all day on Wednesday, Nov. 1 and the morning before the conference starts at lunch on Nov. 2! Information on the Board meeting logistics will be going out to the Board members in the next week. Be sure you have your annual report in to Emilie Maule ASAP so we will have the correct names and addresses to complete our communication. See you in Reno!

The question last week was "what is your typical caseload for related services team members?" I don't think I ever remember a four way tie for first place! At 21 percent, we had 20-30, 40-50, 50-60, and over 60. The second place and last place was 30-40 coming in at 14 percent! Bless those OTs, PTs, SLPs, and others hearts in the "nice" way! I hope you can hug some of them this week as they surely need one!
