Who knew panelization was a good idea? We did!

from SIPA

SIPA members know the benefits of panelization

An article, "Panelization Process Needs Less Labor and Less Time," published in Builder online on Aug. 9 introduces panelization (in this case concrete insulated panels) as a revolutionary way to address changes in the construction industry from a "scarce skilled labor" perspective. SIPA members have known for decades what others are now recognizing as an issue, that energy costs, labor costs and dwindling numbers of skilled tradesmen in the industry have and will affect the way structures are being designed and built.

The article contends that the best way to attack the labor shortage is to decrease the dependence on it using new prefabrication and panelization concepts. Imagine the use of prefabricated panels in walls that are constructed and possibly even installed with insulation, wiring, plumbing and/or cladding prior to shipping them to the site. Benefits sited are reduced cycle time and improved labor utilization with an estimated $1 million in savings given a 200 home volume build.
