Fever and malaise in an infant

from The Journal of Emergency Medicine

Today's case is that of a 36-day-old male who was born at 37 weeks' gestation (corrected age 42 weeks) who presented to the emergency department (ED) with a 1-day history of fever and malaise. The parents reported that the infant felt hot to the touch the night before presentation. On the morning of presentation, the patient appeared pale with sweat around his head. Immediately before coming to the ED, the baby vomited several times after feeding. The emesis appeared to be milk with greenish color, prompting the parents to bring him in to the ED. more
