Can you believe it is October?!

from CASE

It is still really hot here in the south but even so, there is a tad of "nip" in the air, though I promise you going to a night football game is still way too hot! But with the fall comes the CEC election! Have you voted? If you are a CEC member, you should have received an email in September. The election for the CEC Board of Directors and Student Representative to the Representative Assembly is now open. The voting period is through 3 p.m. Eastern Oct. 16. Only students can vote for the Student Representative to the RA. We encourage you to vote! Candidate Bios and President Elect Videos are posted on the CEC website. A link to vote online will be posted on the same webpage, as will a PDF ballot to mail or fax. CEC is YOUR professional association — an organization of vision, integrity and inclusiveness. It has been, and continues to be, committed to diversity, caring and the respect for the dignity and worth of all individuals. Voting is a valuable member benefit that helps ensure this legacy continues. YOUR ASSOCIATION is the leading professional association of educators dedicated to advancing the success of children and youth with exceptionalities. YOUR VOICE drives the direction of CEC and supports advocacy and legislation to help you and your kids. YOUR VOTE ensures that your voice is heard. (Plus you could win an Amazon Tap just for voting!) Comments/questions/concerns should be directed to elections@cec.sped.org. Watch this short video from CEC President Mikki Garcia and vote today if you haven't already! Sharon

It is October now and the 2017 CASE Fall conference is just around the corner — Nov. 2-4! I promise you this is sure to be one of the best and least expensive ones you could attend this decade! Don't put off registering any longer! Kindel Mason (ID), CASE Professional Development chair and his committee have put together an amazing program! The 27th Annual CASE Fall Conference will be held at the Nugget in Reno, Nevada, Nov. 2-4. Now is a great time to go ahead and reserve you room at the Nugget at the amazing group rate of just $81 a night — and that includes your airport to hotel and back transportation!

Have you registered for the CASE Fall Board of Directors meeting? Remember, if you are part of your State/Provincial leadership — the CASE Board of Directors will be meeting all day on Wednesday, Nov. 1 and the morning before the conference starts at lunch on Nov. 2! If you are not registered for the BOD meeting, email me! See you in Reno!

Here is a new resource for you on High School Dropout prevention... This is a Practice Guide "Preventing Dropout in Secondary Schools" from the Dept of Ed's Institute for Education Sciences. Though it is not specific to students with disabilities, it is certainly relevant!

The question last week was a follow up to the one the week before — "Would you be interested in a community service project associated with the CASE Conference?" We had a technical glitch so we are repeating the question this week.

Here's to hoping this week wil more
