Lesotho Comes to New York Through Art — Top 10 Artists Announced



Prestigious architecture firms, designers and artists from 15 states and 11 countries have created over 75 pieces of incredible art ranging from sculptures to sketches, clothing to paintings for the inaugural art competition rise in the city, to raise awareness and funds for impactful nonprofit organization rise and its life saving programs combining architecture with social enterprise to solve poverty problems in vulnerable African communities like Lesotho in Southern Africa.

All the original artworks are going to be exhibited and auctioned on Oc. 25 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, 172 Norfolk St, New York.

A prominent panel of 5 judges, including Michael Sorkin, Jack Travis, Laura Starr and Oliver Needs has had the tough job of selecting the top 10 pieces, per the set guidelines. The challenge was to create a piece of art that represents one block of Manhattan, as well as inspiration from Lesotho. You can view the top 10 pieces here and read about the art specs here.

The overall winner will be announced at the exhibit and the grand prize will be a 10-day trip to Lesotho to take part in the international in loco workshop. Learn more here.
