New partnership to tear down eyesores in Binghamton, New York

City officials recently announced a new initiative to fight blight in Binghamton, New York. As part of an agreement between the Binghamton and the Broome County Land Bank, the City contracted out demolitions at five blighted properties: 34 Jarvis Street, 40 Julian Street, 29 Lydia Street, 5 Valley Street and 50 Thorp Street. According to Mayor Rich David's office, the Land Bank will reimburse the cost of the demolitions, up to $117, 431, with the City transferring ownership of four of the properties to the Land Bank once demolition is complete. The City will retain ownership of 5 Valley Street. more
