Paramedic house calls helping health system cope with nasty flu season

Paramedic Robert Wilson makes house calls. And those visits are making the difference for dozens of high-risk Ottawa residents struggling through a nasty flu season. Wilson, a community paramedic liaison, is part of an innovative program launched by the Champlain LHIN in December that deploys paramedics to seniors residences around the city in an attempt to prevent the most vulnerable flu patients from landing in overcrowded hospitals. Paramedics assess the patients and can treat them for dehydration, fever, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting, if necessary. more
