CABG Best for Diabetics With Multivessel CAD, Low LVEF

from MedPage Today

Left ventricular dysfunction did not make percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) the better choice for revascularization in patients with diabetes and multivessel coronary artery disease, researchers found. When left ventricular ejection fraction fell below 50 percent, this group of PCI recipients was at a disadvantage compared to peers who received coronary artery bypass grafting: combined death, stroke, myocardial infarction and repeat revascularization rates over five years were 51 percent and 28 percent, respectively among those with moderate LV dysfunction; and 61 percent and 29 percent with severe dysfunction, according to Jayan Nagendran, MD, PhD, of University of Alberta and Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton, and colleagues. more
