First let me start by saying we need environmentalists to continue to challenge us to do better to protect the environment. However, until the population ceases to exist, we need to have infrastructure to provide clean water, sanitation and the movement of goods for people. Providing sustainable infrastructure is the business of civil engineers. In 2010, I was the president of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE) and we were developing our new vision (Leadership in Sustainable Infrastructure) and I contacted David Suzuki to ask his assistance in developing protocols and guidance to the CSCE around sustainable infrastructure. more
