Nestlé pledges to make 100 percent of packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025

from Plastics Engineering

Nestlé S.A. says it plans to make 100 percent of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. “Plastic waste is one of the biggest sustainability issues the world is facing,” says Nestlé Chief Executive Officer Mark Schneider. “Tackling it requires a collective approach. We are committed to finding improved solutions to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Our ambition is to achieve 100 percent recyclable or reusable packaging by 2025.” The initiative is threefold, the company says. It will eliminate non-recyclable plastics, encourage the use of plastics that facilitate better recycling rates, and eliminate or change complex combinations of plastic packaging materials. The company says its seven-year plan was inspired by the need for a circular economy. more
