RESNET HERS Data for 2017 by State

from SIPA

On the Path to Net Zero Energy Homes

A Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index Score of 40 or less is seen as a tipping point to net zero energy homes. Of the 227,840 homes receiving a HERS audit in 2017, only 2,099 Homes received a HERS Index of 40 or less according to the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). Over 2 million homes so far have received HERS ratings since its inception in 1996.

As a reminder, a HERS score of 100 equals a home built to the 2006 model energy code. A score of zero equals a zero-energy home. Most SIP homes provide such a robust envelope that they score below 40. Existing homes have a score of about 130.

RESNET published their 2017 HERS Score data by state in a recent newsletter dated March 29, 2018. The data was presented in terms of housing type with scores of 40 or less by state. The top 6 states with homes rated with a HERS Index of 40 or less are: Colorado with 502, New York with 231, Pennsylvania with 186, Florida with 173, Massachusetts with 123, and Arizona with 112.

If one of your SIP homes appear in this or any other report, let us know, and we’ll post it to our SIP Project Map at www.sips.org/projects.
