Last year marked a turning point for the Army. After several years of drawing down, the service got approval to give the active component a 26,000-person infusion, bringing the total force back to just over 1 million. That was the plan, at least. With a limited recruiting environment, hundreds of Army Reserve soldiers jumping to the active component, and a healthy economy, the Army has struggled to keep its 1.018 million total end strength from fiscal 2017 afloat. more
