The FBI says there were 220 active shooter events from 2000 to 2016, including the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, in which 49 people were killed. After that event, Orange County, Fla., Fire Chief Otto Drozd, recognizing the role all first responders have in these scenarios, asked the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to develop some standards for a “Whole Community” response to active shooters. more
