FEMA and partner organizations, including IAEM, held PrepTalks on school safety and youth preparedness

from IAEM

On May 30, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with national emergency management organizations, including IAEM, held a PrepTalks Symposium on “School Safety and Youth Preparedness” at the Long Branch High School in Long Branch, New Jersey. Four PrepTalk speakers delivered presentations to highlight the benefits of preparing young people, how to leverage existing community networks, and what schools can do to make their environment safer. More information about the speakers is available at www.fema.gov/preptalks. In the coming months, FEMA and PrepTalk emergency management partners will release videos online of each presentation, with a companion discussion guide and related resources for whole community partners. PrepTalks are 15-to-20-minute presentations by subject-matter experts and national/international thought leaders, designed to spread new ideas, spark conversation, and promote innovative leadership for the issues confronting emergency managers now and over the next 20 years. PrepTalks are a partnership between FEMA, IAEM, the National Emergency Management Association, the National Homeland Security Consortium, and the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security. more
