Congressional appropriations move forward with Brownfields funding

from NDA

This week, the Senate Appropriations Committee voted to advance the Interior & Environment appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2019, which specifies funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and programs it administers. The bill would allocate $25.5 million for the Brownfields program if passed.

The committee expressed support for the program and the FY2019 allocation would keep funding at current operating levels. Previously, the House of Representatives voted to fund the Brownfields program at $80 million, prioritizing the development of poverty-stricken areas. The political climate in Washington makes passing individual appropriations bills difficult, and it is likely they will pass a continuing resolution to continue funding the government.

NDA is currently pursuing priorities for the demolition industry as part of a comprehensive infrastructure package and Brownfields funding is part of the association’s priorities. For questions, contact Kevin McKenney at more
