Update from Capitol Hill

from NEFI

The House will continue work on legislation to combat opioid addiction and will likely have passed more than 50 related bills by the end of the week. It may also consider the "Shielding Public Spaces from Vehicular Terrorism Act" (H.R.4627), which instructs the Department of Homeland Security to research and develop measures to prevent terrorist attacks on crowds with trucks and other vehicles. It also offers homeland security grants to communities for the installation of bollards and other target hardening measures; and requires a study on emerging driverless vehicle technologies and possible threats to public safety. House Republicans will also gather with President Trump for a discussion on draft legislation to address DACA, help fund a border wall and possibly prohibit the federal government from separating immigrant minors from their parents.

The Senate will finish its work on the National Defense Authorization Act before proceeding to the House-passed "Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act" (H.R.5895). more
