Ex-employee of pharmacy pleads guilty to working without license at pharmacy linked to deadly outbreak

A Rhode Island man pleaded guilty in Boston federal court to working as an unlicensed technician at the pharmacy connected to a deadly 2012 fungal meningitis outbreak. Scott M. Connolly, 46, pleaded guilty to nine counts of mail fraud over his misdeeds at the Framingham-based New England Compounding Center, according federal prosecutors in Massachusetts. The New England Compounding Center made steroid injections for use in people with conditions like back pain. But because of lax safety standards, recklessness and regulatory violations that veered into outright fraud, NECC's steroids ended up becoming contaminated with mold. more
