Industry divided on allowing younger long-haul truck drivers

Giving commercial truck drivers as young as 18 the ability to operate across state lines is drawing support from industry leaders. The current age requirement is 21 years old. “We don’t have an official position but you know, from a staff perspective, we definitely need more drivers involved and we really can’t see an objection to an 18-year old that qualifies, is certified and takes the training,” said Ken Gilliland, director of international trade and transportation for Western Growers. more
