Watch the Stand Up to Cancer Telecast on September 7

This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Stand Up to Cancer Campaign (SU2C). This milestone will be celebrated during the 2018 live, multi-network telecast of the annual Stand Up to Cancer Show tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

Over the last 10 years, Stand Up to Cancer has made an impact by raising funds for groundbreaking cancer research that is helping to save lives now. The organization uses 100 percent of donations received from the public to support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs. This includes funding collaborative, scientifically rigorous, treatment-focused research to develop new therapies for people with cancer. Using a concept called “Team Science,” SU2C brings researchers together to work on multidisciplinary projects across universities, medical centers and companies. The organization also provides grants to individuals, which bring new scientists and their ideas into cancer research by funding high-risk, high-reward projects that may not receive support through traditional grant programs. Learn more about their research portfolio and how their funding is used.

ACSM supports this commitment to research. The college demonstrates its own commitment to “stand up to cancer” through its ongoing focus on research, application and advocacy as it relates to the positive effects of physical activity on cancer prevention, management and recovery. ACSM hosted several international experts at an exercise oncology roundtable in San Francisco earlier in 2018. In addition, an array of sessions on this topic were on the program at this year’s ACSM Annual Meeting in Minneapolis.

With the help of celebrities from TV, film, sports and more, the SU2C show will be returning tomorrow, and ACSM members are encouraged to watch. ACSM will be following-up with SU2C and its sponsors to encourage that even more be done to research and promote the role of exercise oncology – physical activity and other healthy lifestyles in prevention, management, treatment, and recovery related to cancer. more
