Bail reform in Cuyahoga County has been slow going

from Cleveland Plain Dealer

It's been almost three years since Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish unveiled a series of bail reforms designed to make the justice system more fair and less costly.

Since then these three things have happened:
  • The Pretrial Justice Institute in Washington, D.C., conducted a jail study of Cuyahoga County and made bail reform recommendations.
  • The Cuyahoga County Bail Task Force issued a report and made bail reform recommendations.
  • And most recently, county officials created the Criminal Justice Council, which will consider the bail reform recommendations and figure out which ones to follow.
