New rules could open association health plans; law suit causes delays

from NSPS

As previously reported in News & Views, new rules implemented by Department of Labor in the Trump Administration may enable state associations to offer group health insurance plans to their members. Some state surveying associations had plans several years ago, pre-Obamacare, but too many regulations made that very difficult to sustain and most were dropped. NSPS is exploring programs under the new rules. The Federal rules are not a mandate on the states, but rather they are designed to enable and empower the states, as health insurance is still state regulated. Under the new Federal rules, each state must adopt its own rules. Several states have held up implementing their own regulations, as a handful of state attorneys general are suing the Trump Administration Labor Department over this issue. more
