The Active Shooter Threat continues ... is your Maritime Community Ready?

from NMLEA

We have talked about this is previous Blogs and articles here in our newsletter, but given recent events, it’s worth revisiting. For many of you, these questions still remain in your maritime area of operations: What are your areas of concern in your maritime domain as it relates to an Active Shooter Incident (ASI)? What are you not prepared for? What do you need to address, plan for, train for and practice? If you have done some training and preparedness, when was the last time you practiced it?

For those of you still looking for some of those answers, check out this article that we posted a number of months ago on our website: https://www.nmlea.org/single-post/2018/02/28/Active-Shooter-Incidents-ASI-in-the-Maritime-Domain-Part-2.

We encourage you to look at the Active Threat Integrated Response Course (ATIRC) through LSU's NCBRT/Academy for Counter-Terrorism Education and discuss with us its specific maritime application. This curriculum brings together Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services and Fire to collaboratively respond to and mitigate the outcomes in a maritime environment. And the Law Enforcement Active Shooter Emergency Response (LASER) Course focuses on the immediate "Over-the-Rail" type of response an offer, or officers would take when receiving that call from a dinner cruise boat, casino boat, or ferry.

Talk to us today, and prepare for tomorrow's maritime challenge. Email us at info@nmlea.org, or the Executive Director at Mark.DuPont@nmlea.org, and we'll begin the discussion. more
