Headaches are commonly seen in the emergency department. Distinguishing a benign headache from a life- threatening one, such as subarachnoid hemorrhage, is a critical task for emergency physicians. While the historical workup involves computed tomography followed by a lumbar puncture, recent literature suggests that CT alone done within six hours obviates the need for this procedure.
