Brazilian mining dam collapse leaves at least 34 dead, hundreds missing

The death toll rose to 34 after a mining dam collapsed in southeastern Brazil, sending a torrent of potentially hazardous debris downstream that caused widespread destruction in a nearby village. The collapse occurred at the Corrego de Feijao mine near Brumadinho — about 215 miles northwest of Rio de Janeiro — in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais Vale SA, the mining company that operates the dam said.
