A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has hit southern Mexico, with tremors felt as far afield as El Salvador and Guatemala. The strong earthquake rattled nerves and swayed tall buildings hundreds of miles away in the capital. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was centered about 10 miles from the city of Tapachula in Chiapas state and struck at a depth of 40 miles (68 kilometers). more
