Fort Chipewyan hopes to have Canada's largest off-grid solar project operating by 2020

from Fort McMurray Today

The Alberta government will contribute $3.3 million towards Three Nations Energy LP — a company founded by the Athabasca Chipewyan and Mikisew Cree First Nations, as well as Métis Local 125 — to help build 7,500 solar panels in the community. Once complete, it will be the country's largest off-grid solar project and generate the same amount of fuel produced by 800,000 litres of diesel. The project is said to cost a total of $7.8 million. more
