Results of the NABE 2019 Executive Board Regional Election

Simply Voting Inc., an independently managed online voting service that conducts national and international polling and voting activities in the U.S., Canada and Europe, conducted the NABE 2019 Regional Board Election on May 1-8 to select 3 candidates from a field of 5 total outstanding candidates who qualified for the ballot. The election results have been securely processed, tabulated, signed and certified by Simply Voting President. The results were reported to NABE's Administrative Headquarters on May 9th, 2019.

Turnout: 367 (20.4%) of 1801 electors voted. The successful candidates listed below received the highest numbers of votes for their region and were elected to a 3-year term (2019—2022) on the NABE Executive Board effective July 1, 2019.

Eastern Region: Dr. Margarita Pinkos (100%) Unchallenged
Central Region: Dr. Maria Guadalupe Arreguin-Anderson (59.2%)
Western Region: Dr. Cristina Alfaro (68.2%)

NABE congratulates the successful candidates and extends its sincere appreciation and highest regards to all of the outstanding candidates who were committed to the continued success, leadership and growth of our organization. NABE is especially pleased with the continued involvement and contributions of Dr. Sonia Soltero who is a member of NABE’s Dual Language Advisory Committee and Dr. Margarita Machado, a strong NABE member and Co-Chair for the Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO). The NABE Board joins our 20 state and 4 international affiliates, along with our staff in extending a special thanks to all of the candidates who expressed a desire to serve, and a warm welcome to each of our newly elected Regional Board Members. NABE looks forward to great work together with our new Board as we continue to serve the needs of our more than 4.7 million Dual Language and Multilingual Learners, DACA, Dreamers and the more than 20 thousand bilingual teachers. NABE will endeavor to be strong advocates for educational equity, teacher diversity and excellence for bilingual/multilingual students in a global society.

NABE will continue to be a tireless advocate, along with our coalition partners, to influence and help create policies, programs, research, pedagogy and professional development as a sustainable investment in our children’s education, our nation’s future and our world’s well being. NABE places high value on native language, and respects cultural and linguistic diversity. NABE is highly committed to preparing 21st Century multiliterate global citizens who will continue to make invaluable contributions in economic, civic, technological and cultural advancements with their linguistic and multiliterate skills as dynamic assets to our classrooms. NABE embraces and promotes learning more than two languages and cultures. NABE members are the ambassadors who choose to create unity within a diverse and interdependent world community.
