Cal Fire San Diego rips out flammable vegetation in wildfire-prone areas as part of statewide initiative

Chainsaws roared in the rural community of Crest, east of El Cajon, as firefighters and prison inmates last week hacked down vegetation bordering homes under a hot summer sun. The project, part of a statewide initiative to reduce fuels in wild-fire prone areas, aims to create a 200-foot-wide fuel break covering about 60 acres. A similar project covering 128 acres in Guatay is also underway in San Diego County. more
