What's a CFS, and how is it different from a CFM?

from NJSPLS

While the abbreviations look similar, the purposes and focus of each differ. The national Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) program, administered by the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM), crosses disciplines to improve floodplain management and reduce the flood losses. CFMs need not have other professional designations or accreditations.

While sharing many of the same objectives, the Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS) program is highly specific to the role of surveying in floodplain management, and is state-specific. As licensed surveyors become more familiar with the Elevation Certificate and the resources and reasons for completing them, we improve the assistance we can offer clients and our ability to successfully complete Letter of Map Amendment applications.

The NJ State Board of PE & LS has approved the CFS program for 20 hours of CEU’s. NJSPLS will be offering this program on March 18-20, 2020 in Toms River, NJ. Online registration will be available soon. more
