Time is Valuable ... Volunteering is INVALUABLE
    AAOE
AAOE's mission is to be the premier management association serving orthopaedic practice executives; to identify and provide unmatched peer to peer networking and to be recognized for educational excellence for orthopaedic executives. ICD-10 Delay Provides More Time for Compliance and MU
    AAOE
The signing of the H.R. 4302 bill, which includes the provision to delay ICD-10 for one year, has received mixed responses from healthcare professionals. It's understandable considering the amount of time, energy and resources that have been dedicated to ICD-10 readiness.

    MEET YOUR LEADERSHIP

    Leadership Quote of the Week
    Nelson Mandela
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.

The study found that physicians had a greater national economic impact than counterparts in higher education, home healthcare, legal services, nursing and residential care.

Keep ICD-10 in play while assessing current incentive models that fit
    Government Health IT
It has held true that since the HITECH Act of 2009, nothing in the journey to transform healthcare delivery, payment and sustainability has remained as constant as change — or arguably opportunity. Meaningful use Stage 1, HIPAA 5010, meaningful use Stage 2, and now ICD-10–again. All have experienced extensions or delays. All have, or will, come to pass in some form.

Census Bureau: Question changes make it easier to assess health insurance law
    The Washington Post
The director of the Census Bureau said he is confident that new changes in the wording of survey questions on health insurance will not diminish its ability to measure the impact of the Affordable Care Act. John H. Thompson, responding to critics, said the survey questions were rephrased specifically to establish a benchmark for how many people were uninsured in 2013, the year before the health insurance mandate took effect, so comparisons can be made in future years.

Tackling claims processing, payment management bottlenecks
    EHRIntelligence
Healthcare organizations of all sizes find themselves in a particularly challenging spot when it comes to reimbursement. Although reimbursement is beginning to shift away from volume to value, much of their revenue today still depends on the fee-for-service payment system. How then do healthcare organizations — from health systems to physician practices — ensure that best practices are in place to succeed in both reimbursement environments?

How ICD-10 will unlock a new market for data analysis
    Smart Data Collective
It's not often that healthcare IT (sometimes referred to as HIT) makes national headlines. Yet that’s exactly what happened after congress recently delayed the implementation of a new medical coding system until 2015. This is actually the second time that Congress has delayed the switch from the current medical code system, to the latest version. Most other developed countries have been using it for years. Congress' pushback was attributed to a variety of reasons, including the lack of EHR vendor support, and the small number of EHR solutions that are ICD-10 ready.

Hospitals adjusting billing and collections practices to meet ACA changes
    Healthcare Finance News
The Affordable Care Act has created some new realities for hospitals when it comes to billing and collecting from patients. Hospitals are adjusting by instituting a variety of processes. At Omaha's Children's Hospital & Medical Center, the focus is on helping those newly insured under the ACA navigate their responsibilities. In many cases, hospital staff are working with patients who never had insurance before and who may not understand the product they purchased on the exchanges, said Brian Argo, the hospital’s vice president and chief revenue officer.
